Abstract

Machen's experience of war deepened his convictions concerning the intractability of human fallenness, the futility of various political arrangements designed to effect global peace (and even some semblance of the millennium), and his confidence in the sure hope of the Gospel. His insights into the events of his times are timeless in that they are grounded in the Word of God and its teachings about humanity, sin, God's sovereignty, and the Person and work of Christ.
