FUNCTIONS OF THE EDITORIAL TEAM

The Editorial Team:

  • Promotes the reputation of the Reformed Theological Review (RTR, ‘the Journal’).
  • Publishes three issues per year of the Journal and any Supplements approved by the Reformed Theological Society (‘the Society’).
  • Ensures conformity to the Journal’s submission requirements and style guide.
  • Maintains academic quality and develops academic engagement.

APPOINTMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • All editorial appointments are made by the Society.
  • The following appointments may be made: General Editor, Executive Editor, Editors Emeriti, Assistant Editors, Book Reviews Editor, Editorial Board Members.
  • Recommendations for appointments to the Editorial Board may be made by the General Editor through the Executive Editor to the Society.
  • Editors are established, respected, and active theological researchers.
  • Emerging researchers may be appointed to the Team to assist the Executive Editor with tasks in the editorial process.
  • Editorial representation is sought from across the world, usually with no more than four appointments from any one country or region.
  • Editors are drawn from a range of institutions, usually with no institution being represented more than once on the Editorial Board and from institutions with HDR programs.
  • There are no timelimits set on appointments but all appointments and the effectiveness of the Editorial Team are reviewed annually by the Society.
  • Editors receive a complimentary print subscription while they remain editors.

GENERAL EDITOR

The General Editor:

  • Promotes the reputation of RTR.
  • Recommends Editorial Board appointments to the Society through the Executive Editor.
  • Convokes and chairs Editorial Consultations, to be held at least annually.
  • Takes on other responsibilities that the General Editor thinks are appropriate, as agreed with the Executive Editor.
  • Advises on quality and development.
  • Encourages researchers to submit to RTR.
  • Considers RTR as a possible outlet for their own research and book reviews.
  • Usually is not from the same country as the Executive Editor.

EXECUTIVE EDITOR

The Executive Editor:

  • Is responsible to the Society for all operations of the Journal.
  • Promotes the reputation of RTR.
  • Develops the Journal in accordance with current academic standards.
  • Reports to the Society at least annually.
  • Seeks approval from the Society for significant developments.
  • Recommends Editorial Team appointments to the Society.
  • Sets submission requirements and the Style Guide.
  • Approves all articles and reviews for publication.
  • Records the minutes of Editorial Consultations or appoints someone to do so.
  • Ensures that issues are sent to ATLA, Web of Science, Scopus, and Informit.
  • Ensures the website is maintained.
  • Recommends to the Society and manages administrative assistants.
  • Encourages researchers to submit to RTR.
  • Considers RTR as a possible outlet for their own research and book reviews.
  • Is referenced in the Society’s Constitution as ‘the Editor’.

EDITORS EMERITI

There are no formal requirements for Editors Emeriti, but as they are able, they may:

  • Promote the reputation of RTR.
  • Advise on matters of quality and development.
  • Be consulted by the Executive Editor.
  • Participate in Editorial Consultations.
  • Encourage researchers to submit to RTR.

ASSISTANT EDITORS

  • Assistant Editors have the same responsibilities as Editorial Board Members but take on significant involvement in tasks in the editorial process as delegated by the Executive Editor.
  • Rather than appointing separate Assistant Editors, the Society may choose to consider one or more Editorial Board Members as Assistant Editors for the purpose of the Society’s Constitution.

BOOK REVIEW EDITOR

The Book Review Editor:

  • Promotes the reputation of RTR.
  • Ensures all books reviewed are of an appropriate academic level.
  • Selects books for the administrative assistant to request from publishers.
  • Assigns books to reviewers.
  • Encourages scholars to submit reviews to RTR.
  • Responds to inquiries about submitting reviews.
  • Edits and recommends all reviews for publication.

EDITORIAL BOARD MEMBERS

Editorial Board Members:

  • Promote the reputation of RTR.
  • Encourage researchers to submit to RTR.
  • Advise on quality and development.
  • Attend Editorial Consultations.
  • Recommend article peer reviewers.
  • Consider undertaking at least one peer review per year.
  • Consider RTR as a possible outlet for their own research and book reviews.
  • Assist the Executive Editor if requested and able.

EDITORIAL CONSULTATIONS

Editorial Consultations are held for the purposes of:

  • Team coordination
  • Reviewing academic quality
  • Advising on Journal development.

Meetings are:

  • Held at least annually, with the annual meeting held preferably on the second Friday of July, 10:00pm/2200h GMT/UTC, for no longer than one hour.
  • Convoked and chaired by the General Editor.
  • Minuted by the Executive Editor or as otherwise appointed.
