Abstract

The present paper examines Luther's and Calvin's interpretation of Genesis 4:1 in light of the Jewish exegetical tradition, and analyses the historical context of their exposition by researching the development of Hebrew grammar in didactic terms and by describing their personal encounter with the biblical languages, especially with Hebrew.
